You describe the young woman as a protestor, which means the poor dear girl didn't accidentally get swept up in the riot, but made plans to come there and take part.

The one thing that is clearly known about the G-20 protests over the years, G-8 etc., is that they have always involved assaults on police, arson and property damage.

The police knew the history. For them to be unprepared to face violence would be ridiculous. To believe this female protester came there without expecting a violent confrontation would require naivete of an implausible degree. She was involved in provoking the violence. Had she and her fellow criminal conspirators stayed within the law, no violence would have occurred. Where does the blame really lie?

If you criticize the police without a single word of censure for the people who conspired to join together to create mayhem, it shows you have abandoned any pretense of objectivity.

In a world where police would never have to confront violence, society would have no need of police.

The police have worked for many years to improve their response to violent rioters, and still continue. It's not as if we've returned to the days when machine guns would have been used.

If the police weren't there, and the G-20 marauders were throwing Molotov cocktails at you, exactly what non-violent methods would you employ to save your sorry self?

It is clear that police need to improve their general processes to manage protesters. The number of IPCC investigations into similar acts of apparent police heavy-handedness is, hopefully, leading to long term changes in processes. UK policing is perhaps the most controlled policing in the world, but there is always room for improvement.

This is a very interesting article I have come across. “Amateur brain surgery “This is weird .The police must always be seen to be behaving in a totally acceptable manner – regardless of the provocation. It’s a tough job and staying cool when faced with an angry, spitting, yelling mob is more than most of us would be capable of.

The New York City police department has a bad reputation amongst civil rights advocates because they shoot and kill innocent black and hispanic people. Amadou Dialo and Sean were both killed by cops. It's really saddening.

It is not acceptable to have people doing such things to others as police officers. People should have respect f or police officers. With such actions you will never earn respect, more contrary, they damage the whole police!

It's weird how things can change in a generation. Police officers used to be someone you'd go to for help. In a lot of ways they're viewed more like thugs today. They really need to get the old image back.
