Jack Straw Accused of Cynical Preelection Stunt
Last week Jack Straw called for clarification of the self defense laws. He was then accused of irresponsibility by the police federation and the opposition said that it was a cynical preelection stunt.
We here at Amateur Brain Surgery are aware of several cases in which the victims of violent crime have been charged with assault […]Brave People of Burma
The news today is full of stories of the protesting monks and people of Burma. We here have nothing but admiration for those brave souls willing to put their lives on the line in order to stand up to their lousy government. We may think we’ve got it bad but at least we can say […]
Gettin’ The Blues
The internet is a wonderful thing. Once upon a time, many years ago, I’d travel many miles in order to visit just a few second hand record shops in order to paw through the racks of vinyl hoping to find recordings of old blues dudes from way back. These days the internet saves all that […]
Illegal Immigrant Amnesty - WTF?
So some think tank (?) reckons it’s a good idea to give an amnesty to around 500,000 immigrants who are living in Britain illegally. The so-called think tank justify their recommendation by saying that this would raise around £1bn in taxes. What planet are they on?
This recommendation has coincided with police forces throughout the UK […]Proposal for an Enhanced Road Safety System for All Vehicles
The following proposal for an enhanced road safety system is not my own idea. It was suggested to me some years ago by sources that I cannot remember.
The system is intended to encourage drivers to leave a safe distance between them and the vehicle in front, drive at a safe speed and to avoid […]Oxymorons

The glories of booze… not
The Nurse finds drunk people creepy, boring, stupid, ugly, unpredictable and occasionally frightening. What a nasty, nasty drug booze is. As the Chief Surgeon says, how on earth can it be socially acceptable for people to get so blasted on drink that they can’t tell their silly, fat arses from their elbows? It’s quite simply appalling.
The Nurse also wonders why the media doesn’t seem […]Binge Drinking
I heard a report today in which binge drinking was defined as consuming more than 4 units of alcohol in one session. What does that actually mean? This would equate to 2 pints of ordinary strength beer or lager, 4 small pub measures of spirits or around 2.5 glasses of wine. (Recommended safe limits for […]
Hairdressers, mend your ways!
“Have you got a boyfriend?”, she chirps. For christ’s sake, I’m forty four. I’m not going on holiday any time soon. And surely you don’t really want to know about my weekend, spent happily filthy and sweaty working in the garden.
Having a haircut is, in essence, a gorgeous and luxurious experience. But, potentially relaxing and soothing, it’s completely ruined by this […]More Warnings Please
So we are about to see new, graphic warnings on cigarette packets presenting the grizzly effects that smoking has upon the human body. Good idea. If it contributes towards people kicking the habit then it’s a good thing, in my opinion.
We here at Amateur Brain Surgery think that the visual warning system should be extended […]
