Dealing with this immigration issue is always tough. Because as a taxpayer I do not want to have to pay more for these people, but at the same time I myself know some people who are not only immigrants but illegal, and they are very nice people who I am friends with. Kind puts me on the fence with the whole issue.

This is a big problem in the USA as well. The cost per hour for illegal immigrants is around $26-$30, over and above the revenue that they bring in. There is great controversy over this issue, especially since the economy has gotten so tight. Those fighting to legalize illegal immigrants state that they have family here that they do not want to break up and they bring money in by doing jobs others do not want. Those fighting against it state the costs incurred to support their families, the secondary language, the fact that they broke the law the way they entered the country and that the legal citizens would do the work if the pay met the minimum wage.

This is a tough issue. In some respects, immigration is good thing. It tends to bring cheap labor into the work force, for instance. At the same time, too much of it can really put a strain on public systems and government. We have a very similar situation in the US and there is talk of amnesty. I can’t say I know what the right answer is but I’m not sure amnesty is it.
