Irresponsible Parents Cost Us Dearly
What on earth is going on? A couple of weeks ago we heard how a Californian mother had successfully given birth to octuplets. Americans were initially reported to be overjoyed about the births. But then it emerged that the mother already had six children under the age of 7, was single, unemployed and had been undergoing fertility treatment.
This situation is plainly wrong. This woman didn’t need fertility treatment, she needed therapy. The financial cost of raising this enormous brood is estimated to exceed $3 million by 2025. That’s without even considering the risks to the physical health and well being of the poor infants involved. And who is going to foot this bill and endure the consequences of this woman’s misguided and selfish act? It was irresponsible to have provided this woman with fertility treatment when she clearly needs mental help.
Then we hear reports in our local news of a boy of only 13, who looks nearer 10, having fathered a child with a girl of 15, who looks nearer 40. This is just so wrong. Yet again, who will bare the cost of the selfish and thoughtless decision to allow this pregnancy to go to full term? We will. And who was responsible for not having educated these youngsters to be aware of the law regarding under-age sex? They should be punished. It’s astounding that, each year, there are an increasing number of pregnant teenagers in the UK who are so ill-informed and under-educated having given no consideration to how they will raise their children and the responsibilities of parenthood.
Stories like these make me despair. Why should I and others who take a responsible approach to life, pay taxes that are then used to support those who are irresponsible, inconsiderate and selfish. Our resources are limited and we are massively over-crowded yet we allow a single mother to produce 14 offspring and an immature 13 year old boy to father a child. It is just so wrong.

And these mentioned cases are just the ones ‘extreme’ enough to reach global media. Given the size of the current population, similar cases will happen by the tens, if not hundreds every day. Sometimes I wonder if these people have thought about their future AT ALL when making those decisions.

These are sad stories, i too wonder what will be done, but even if they find financial help, the toll on the children themselves will be heavy. I wish there were better ways to educated children to understand these situations better.

WTF!? Why would she still give birth? I mean yes, go for raising kids, but not too much to handle. Sad…

In the case of the Octomom, the doctor should never have given her the fertility treatment. I mean, she had 6 kids, all with fertility treatment at different times. When does it stop? When do they do their due diligence that this person is a whack job?
As for the 13 year old kid, isn’t he off the hook now as DNA tests show that he is not the father?
Either way, both cases are so sad. You know that this sort of irresponsibility is not only going to cost $, but I doubt the kids are going to be in stable environments either. With poor parenting, their future does not look too bright either. And the cycle just perpetuates.

The problem with these stories though is that all though they are not good for those involved, they happen in the minority, and things like this always will regardless of how strict/advanced society is. Unless of course we find a way of detaching the bits before puberty, and reinserting them after marriage!

Nothing new, it was always, right? But let’s just think who these teenagers are? They are our children! Not exactly ours, but they are kids of our neighborhoods, friends, relatives etc. Do not forget that parents are responsible for their children education, health, etc. The more we hire nannies, babysitters to our kids the more we move away from them. No wonder such problems are rising.

Only a handful of publications have focused specifically on the definition of health and its evolution in the first 6 decades. Some of them highlight its lack of operational value and the problem created by use of the word “complete.” Others declare the definition, which has not been modified since 1948, “simply a bad one.”

Mental health describes either a level of cognitive or emotional well-being or an absence of a mental disorder. The World Health Organization defines mental health as “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community”. However, despite official definitions, the term mental health, and the question of whether or not an individual is ‘mentally well’, remains a subjective assessment.

Thanks for the interesting post. I have heard about this woman and its pretty sad what she did. I think she was desperate for love and thought these children would fill that void when what she really needed was therapy. I look forward to reading more from you in the future.

I completely agree with the author! This is a very serious social issue which requires immediate attention. However, in the context of current financial crisis, price wars and redistribution of territories, nobody cares. This is really sad….

It is so sad to know that more and more teenagers are getting pregnant, not knowing the consequences of their actions. I believe it’s really important that every parent must educate their children from what’s right and what’s wrong because it is them who are responsible in giving the right advice and education to their children.

This is one of the downsides the way our society works. If this women couldn’t rely on payouts then she wouldn’t have this many children.
It is very irresponsible. People should think about whether or not they are in the position to look after children before they have any – let alone fourteen.

Canon Powershot G11 dead pixels? I am not as well confident if it really is what you call dead pixels, but within the LCD display screen, there are tiny black dots. I know it’s not dust or dirt within the lens, since it appears in images I’ve taken ahead of I had this difficulty. You’ll find about 3 or 4 black dots on the LCD display screen, and they are not also near to every single other. I purchased my camera in September. Ought to I send it in to Canon to obtain it fixed?
